Closed Meetings Involving the CDC, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and
Lyme Disease.
This information was assembled for the Lyme Disease Antitrust Investigation by the Connecticut Attorney
General. The minutes of these meetings clearly show an alliance between the CDC, a public health agency, and
the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), a private medical society. An investigation of the CDC was
beyond the authority of the Connecticut Attorney General. The minutes of these meetings have been removed
from the Internet. The most relevant entries have been highlighted.

NCID/CDC/BSC Meetings Minutes Analysis ‚€“ 2002 - 2006
These are excerpts from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)/National Center for Infectious Diseases
(NCID)/Board  of Scientific Counselors (BSC) minutes from meetings that took place from December 2002 until
the reorganization in March 2007. The NCID has announced that their materials, presumably including these
minutes, will be removed from the Internet. Only excerpts of meetings relevant to Lyme disease or the Infectious
Diseases Society of America (IDSA) are included. References to Walter Stamm are also included. Stamm was
the president of IDSA in 2005, the time of the meeting where promoting IDSA Lyme disease guidelines and
disparaging alternative Lyme disease guidelines was discussed.

NCID/CDC/BSC May 2005 Meeting - the genesis of the 2006 IDSA Lyme disease guidelines
This restricted meeting in May 2005 was the genesis of the corrupted Lyme disease guidelines
issued by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) in 2006 and investigated by the
Connecticut Attorney General for antitrust violations. Attendees included the NCID, CDC, and Dr. Walter Stamm
of the University of Washington and a past president of IDSA. The subject of eliminating ‚€œrogue guidelines‚€
advocating long-term treatment for Lyme disease (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society
(ILADS)) was discussed. Disparaging comments were made about Lyme disease patients, their doctors, and
the laboratories that serve these patients.

Conflicts of Interest in Lyme Disease: Laboratory Testing, Vaccination, and Treatment Guidelines,
written by author Pamela Weintraub for the Lyme Disease Association (LDA) in 2001, years before her book,
Cure Unknown; Inside the Lyme Disease Epidemic, was published. An excellent investigative report.

The following two documents are an analysis of references used in constructing the
2006 IDSA Lyme disease guidelines. They clearly show the bias of the IDSA Lyme disease guideline authors.

The first document, ‚€œ,‚€ is a summary showing
by section;

The number of references available for each topic and subtopic.

The number of references cited and as a percentage of available references.

The number of references used that were written by the authors of the 2006 Lyme disease
guidelines. These are also shown as a percentage of references used.

The number of references used that were written by the authors of the 2006 Lyme disease
guidelines and their known associates. These are also shown as a percentage of references
used.

The second document, ‚€œIDSA 2006 Lyme Disease Guidelines Specific References Used,‚€ lists the specific
references used for each section.

This material was prepared for the Connecticut Attorney General Lyme disease antitrust investigation in 2008.

UPI Investigates: The vaccine conflict (and the CDC)
An investigative report by Mark Benjamin, an award winning journalist then with United Press International
